Former Premier League midfielder Jamie O’Hara has said that Manchester United are worse under Ruben Amorim than they were under Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
The Red Devils lost 2-0 to Wolves in their last game, which was their third defeat in a row. Ruben Amorim‘s side now sit 14th in the Premier League and are only six points off the relegation zone. They play against Newcastle United in their next game.
At the halfway point in the season, United have not been good enough under Amorim and they have faced criticism from O’Hara who suggests that could finish in the bottom half this year.
He told Grosvenor Sport: “Manchester United for me are an absolute disgrace. They’ve brought in a new manager in Ruben Amorim but absolutely nothing’s changed – they were arguably better under Ruud van Nistelrooy.
“I think Manchester United could finish in the bottom half of the Premier League this season, the ‘middle’ teams in the division are doing really well this year and are signing good players, whereas United are miles off it in my opinion.”
O’Hara was also critical of Amorim’s man management and tactical decisions, saying that he is being too stubborn in his choice of a three-at-the-back formation.
“The highest paid players don’t even want to be there, they’re playing a formation that doesn’t suit the players, and the winning mentality at the club has gone.”
Manchester United’s stats under Ruben Amorim
The Red Devils have played 10 games under Amorim now, and have won four, drawn one and lost five in the 50 days since his arrival.
It averages out at just 1.3 points per game, which is significantly worse than Amorim did at both of his former clubs.
At Braga, Amorim’s record was 2.38 points per game, and at Sporting CP, his record was 2.29 per game. The United boss will be desperate to see some form of improvement as he aims to fix the mess at Old Trafford.
