Manchester United REJECTED the chance to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo before forward’s Juventus switch

Manchester United REJECTED the chance to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo prior to him agreeing to join Juventus.

Ronaldo sealed his move to the Serie A champions yesterday afternoon after weeks of speculation surrounding his future with Real Madrid.

The deal is reported to be in the region of around £88 – £105 million.

Manchester United had been previous favourites to land their former star, with PSG also touted as a potential destination for the Portugal international – however Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has revealed both sides turned down the opportunity to take Ronaldo away from Madrid.

“Juventus is the only offer that Real Madrid has got. The only one,” Balague said on his official YouTube channel.

“Nobody else came, even though PSG and Manchester United were asked this summer and last summer. They always said no.

“Many reasons for it of course, it changes the whole finances of the club.

“Some calculations say it will be €400m for Juventus between the transfer and the wages.”

Ronaldo’s move to Juve brings to an end a hugely successful nine year spell at the Bernabeu for the 33-year-old forward.

Since moving to Madrid from United in 2009, Ronaldo has made 438 appearances and scored 450 goals, helping Los Blancos to four Champions League trophies, two La Liga titles, as well as nine other major honours.

He has also won the Ballon d’Or four times in that period.

Despite all his successes however, Balague believes the Portuguese star was never truly happy at the Bernabeu, and that his supposed ‘lack of adoration’ from the fans is what caused him to leave for Turin.

“What has happened is that Ronaldo has demanded constantly to get signs of love from Real Madrid that he never got, not enough, not often enough and not powerful enough,” Balague said.

“Eventually that’s what has forced him to go in his mind. He feels that he’s been pushed away by Real Madrid because they did not say yes to everything that he demanded.

“He never felt loved at Real Madrid. Florentino Perez didn’t give him the total admiration that Ronaldo demands. In the last 12 months, things became very difficult.”
