Man Utd Beat Rivals & Agree To £34m Fee To Sign Former Real Madrid Full Back

Reports in Spain suggest that Manchester United have agreed to a £34 million price tag to sign former Real Madrid left back Miguel Gutierrez.

The defender now plays for Spanish side Girona where he has become somewhat of a star for the La Liga side. Madrid had agreed a 50% sell-on fee for the defender when he made the move to Girona in summer 2022. But Football365 understand that Real Madrid have given the Red Devils the green light to sign the 22 year-old.

There have been reports that Gutierrez was also on the radar of Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. But those rumours seem not to have materialised which puts United in the driving seat.

Gutierrez has made 76 appearances since he joined Girona in 2022, helping them to a Champions League spot last season. He had only made 10 professional appearances for Real Madrid before he moved away from the Bernabeu, but the La Liga giants had been keeping tabs on the Spaniard’s progress.

Manchester United keen on adding help at left back

It had been understood that Erik Ten Hag was unhappy with his options at left back with the likes of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia struggling with injury issues last season.

Even though it is likely that Shaw would remain the starter if United do sign Gutierrez, Ten Hag will feel much more comfortable having a talented backup behind the England international should he face more injury troubles.

Major changes coming in United squad

Gutierrez is likely to be one of a number of new young players coming into Old Trafford as Erik Ten Hag and new majority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe look to make significant improvements before the new season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the manager and the club are in agreement over United’s transfer strategy this summer in an attempt to make up some ground to title contenders Arsenal and Manchester City.
