The Ruben Amorim era has officially begun at Manchester United, but it could cause some players in red to suffer.

The new United boss has a very specific way of playing as he likes a three-at-the-back formation, usually in a 3-4-3 which suits certain players, however, it could damage certain players’ prospects of regular first-team football.

Amorim takes over from Ruud Van Nistelrooy who was in interim charge of the club after the sacking of Erik Ten Hag which followed United’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United in late October.

The Red Devils ended the Van Nistelrooy tenure well with a 3-0 win against Leicester and they will now look forward to a game against Ipswich Town at Portman Road for Ruben Amorim’s first as United manager.

Marcus Rashford

Rashford has had arguably his worst year in a United shirt as he has struggled to find consistent goalscoring form for the Red Devils.

He has just one goal in the opening 11 games for United this season and could struggle even more now that Amorim has come into the fold.

If he is to play a 3-4-3, Rashford won’t fit into one of the wing spots in midfield and he also won’t be able to play in one of the attacking midfield roles behind the striker if Amorim wishes to play that system.

It might mean that the English attacker will need to prove himself to the new boss if he is to get regular game time.

Diogo Dalot

Unlike Marcus Rashford, Dalot is having a fantastic season for the Red Devils, he was one of the better performers in the first 11 games.

However, if Amorim picks to play a back three, Dalot won’t fit into that centre-back style role that he would need to.

Furthermore, the full-back isn’t much of a wing back so he also won’t be able to play in the midfield role that full-backs are required to play in a 3-4-3.

Casemiro

Ruben Amorim previously managed defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte at Sporting CP which means the Uruguayan will likey get the start from Amorim.

That simply means that there may not be room for Casemiro in midfield too as Amorim will want to play a more-rounded or box-to-box style central midfielder alongside Ugarte.

Casemiro simply doesn’t fit that profile, meaning that the former Real Madrid man could struggle to get consistent game time in Amorim’s starting XI.
