Manchester United Player Ratings vs Spurs

Manchester United started the new season off with a 1-0 victory over Spurs. Neither side really looked to get into top gear during the game, in what was a relatively quiet curtain opener. Nevertheless, The Red Devils took all 3 points thanks to Kyle Walker’s own goal.

Tottenham had chances to spoil United’s day, Eriksen having the best opportunity to open the scoring after chipping the ball over goalkeeper Romero, but narrowly missing the target. Incidentally United’s new signing Sergio Romero, who started the game ahead of David De Gea, performed well despite having a shaky start.

The other 4 debutantes in the game also impressed, especially right back Matteo Darmian who already looks like a smart investment on United’s behalf. Memphis Depay had a quiet game but looks like a hungry player, something that will bode well for the new No 7. As for Bastian Schweinsteiger, the man who has won it all, his entrance to the game was accompanied with a huge reception – something he later described as an amazing moment.

Louis van Gaal celebrated his 64th birthday with the victory, but it has to be noted that his team were very fortunate to grind out a result when you consider the team didn’t even have a shot on target until the 65th minute.

Here is how we rated the side against Tottenham – all ratings are scored out of 10:

Romero – 8

Darmian – 7.5 (Valencia – 6)

Smalling – 8

Schneiderlin – 6.5

Carrick – 6.5 (Schweinsteiger – 6)
