Manchester United Player Ratings vs Newcastle

Manchester United dropped their first points of the season as they stumbled to a 0-0 draw with Newcastle United. The Red Devils went into the game with a 100% winning record after 1-0 victories over both Spurs and Aston Villa, however the Magpies offered United a different sort of game than what they had previously faced. Newcastle, despite failing to create many chances themselves, probably deserved something from the game in hindsight.

Manchester United started the game on the front foot and continued throughout with around 65% possession over the full 90. No real chances were created in the first half, but Wayne Rooney had a goal ruled offside, meaning the striker has now gone almost 900 minutes without a goal in the league. United probably should have taken the lead in the second half when substitute Javier Hernandez missed a 1v1 with goalkeeper Tim Krul, as it turned out, the Mexican hit the ball straight at the Dutchman.

As for Newcastle, their chances were hugely limited. They did, however, have the chance to sucker punch Manchester United very late into the game with a counterattack – but Cisse only just failed to find new Newcastle man Florian Thauvin, the new £12m signing from Marseille.
