Goalkeeper and Defence
GK – Altay Bayindir – 9/10 – there was some wayward kicking from the Turkish international and he was partially at fault for Arsenal’s goal. However, he also made some vital saves. He dived low to stop Martin Odegaard’s penalty, kept Declan Rice out twice and then crucially saved Kai Havertz’s effort in the shootout.
CB – Mattijs de Ligt – 8/10 – Arsenal’s goal did deflect off him into the goal but it was an otherwise excellent display from the Dutchman, who made a pivotal goal-line clearance to stop Leandro Trossard from scoring in extra time.
CB – Harry Maguire – 8/10 – cleared everything that came into United’s penalty box and he will feel hard done by that the referee awarded a soft penalty for his challenge on Havertz.
CB – Lisandro Martinez – 7/10 – got booked after elbowing Gabriel Jesus and he was on a tightrope from then on.
