Manchester United Open Contract Talks With Two Midfielders

Manchester United have opened talks with both Juan Mata and Ander Herrera about extending their contracts at the club, according to reports in England.

The Spanish pair have deals that will expire in the summer, and the Red Devils are said to be keen to extend their time at Old Trafford.

Reports today have also suggested that both Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia will be given extensions.

United have an option to extend the club captain’s contract by a further year, but they will need to sit down with Young (who turns 34 in July) to hash out a new deal.

There are also a host of other players that will see their contracts ending in 2019. Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian, James Wilson and Andreas Pereira could all leave but, like with Valencia, the club could trigger their option to extend for a further year.

That is reportedly likely to happen in all five cases, with United then able to make a decision on who to keep or sell in the summer, rather than allow all of them to leave for nothing.
