REPORT: Manchester United In Transfer Pursuit Of £33 Million Premier League Midfielder

Manchester United have reportedly approached Everton with the intent of purchasing box-to-box midfielder Amadou Onana, according to Yahoo! Sport.

Everton are thought to be reluctant to let Onana leave the club – on the other hand, however, the Belgian appears to be keen on a move away from Goodison Park in the summer.

Any club wishing to bring Onana on board will need to pay the Toffees no less than £50 million – he was signed by Everton last summer from Lille for a fee of £33 million.

With this being said, given Everton’s rocky financial situation, they could be convinced to let Onana go for a lesser amount than their original asking price. He is, however, one of the Blues’ key players – he will be valued and treated as such.

What would Amadou Onana add to the Manchester United squad?

With Brazilian midfielder Fred set to leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, it would be beneficial for United replace him with a player of the same mold.

Like Fred, Onana is a fast, hard-working central midfield player who always presents a passing option and is a nuisance to opposing teams when out of possession.

Unlike Fred, however, Onana is a supremely technically-gifted midfielder. For all his efforts, Fred was no stranger to a wayward pass or a sloppy first touch during his stint with the Red Devils. On top of this, Onana is a better defender than Fred is – and at just 21, he is only going to get better.

This is not the case with Onana. He moves the ball around very well – additionally, he also has a wicked shot on him, although he had few chances to display this while playing for Everton last season.

Who else, besides United, are interested in a move for Onana?

United are not the only club interested in a move for Onana – they are, however, the team that appears to be leading the race to acquire his signature as things stand.

The other clubs who have been linked with him recently include Liverpool, Chelsea, West Ham United and Arsenal have reportedly been interested in the player since the 2023 summer transfer window opened its doors.
