Ex-Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke says his former club have a better chance of finishing in the top four than either Chelsea or Tottenham.
When BeIN Sports presenter Richard Keys suggested that both teams are likelier to qualify for the Champions League than Erik ten Hag‘s side, along with Arsenal and Liverpool, Yorke responded by saying:
“I think Man United has got a good chance. I disagree with you on two of them. If you put Chelsea and Tottenham ahead of Man United, that’s not happening.”
“There’s no way Tottenham are ahead of Manchester United. No way. As bad as we may be right now, current position, Tottenham is not ahead of Man United in any department. Well, beautiful stadium, I’ll give you that.”
Where are United currently in the Premier League table?
After securing a 3-0 win over Southampton at the weekend, ten Hag’s men sit 1oth on 6 points, having won 2 and lost 2. They are a point below Chelsea and 2 points above Spurs as things stand.
In terms of the top 4, it’s a bit too early in the season to determine whether United will be in contention, but they are only 3 points off fourth place Liverpool at the moment.
Consistency is key for this team
Even though the victory against the Saints was relatively comfortable in the end, United could have gone 1-0 down if Andre Onana hadn’t saved Cameron Archer’s penalty.
They were slow out of the blocks at St Mary’s and, if they are to maintain a position near the top of the league, they need to put together a full 90 minutes where they play at the best.
Currently, there is a considerable amount of inconsistency even during the same game, and ten Hag will be looking to iron things out by introducing more summer signings over the coming weeks.
