Robbie Savage Excited By Potential Of United Wonderkid Who “Scores Goals For Fun”

Former Manchester United academy player Robbie Savage agrees with Ruben Amorim’s decision not to throw in youngsters despite the club’s injury crisis.

The Red Devils boss had a bench full of academy players against Tottenham at the weekend but fans were frustrated that he only chose one to come on during the 1-0 defeat. Savage says he understands why Amorim was reluctant to use them:

“They may not be ready and that could really hurt them going forward. Playing in front of 60,000 at Spurs, you know, if you, if they want the ball, give the ball away. You could really hurt them if you put them in when they’e not ready. I know a lot of those young players, you know, Darren Fletcher’s, you know, youngsters, they’re very, very good players but are they ready?”

Savage was, though, quick to praise one player who was handed his senior debut by Amorim versus Spurs:

“[Chido] Obi, the kid from Arsenal, watched him recently, he scores goals for fun. He’s one for the future most definitely.”

The striker has had a very promising start to his United career

As Savage points out, Obi has been finding the back of the net on a regular basis since his move from Arsenal in the summer.

The Denmark Under 18 international has scored 12 goals in just 9 appearances for the Red Devils at youth level, including a hat-trick against Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup last week.

Amorim could have some players back for the Everton game

United travel to face in-form Everton at Goodison Park this weekend with a depleted squad. There are currently 12 first-team players on the sidelines.

It is believed that both Leny Yoro and Christian Eriksen will be back available after illness, while it is hoped that the likes of Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer could feature as well.
