“Let’s See” – Amorim Drops Hint About Debut As 9 Goal Teenage Sensation Gets United Fans Talking

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has played down suggestions that youngster Chido Obi-Martin will soon be handed his senior debut.

The Danish teenager has set tongues wagging with his displays at youth level since his summer arrival from Arsenal, with supporters claiming he deserves to be given a chance in the first team. When asked about the possibility at his pre-match press conference ahead of the FA Cup tie versus Leicester, Amorim said he is still placing his trust in Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee:

“He’s doing his job, he’s improving, he’s playing in the youth teams, and we have also other players that can play in that position.”

“Rasmus and Josh are there, we bought these two players, so we need to improve them and then sometimes the confidence can change a player.”

“We will see in the end of the season, but, until then, we have two strikers that can score goals. They proved it in the past. Let’s see if we can improve as a team, to help them to score goals.”

Obi-Martin has caught the eye since arriving at United

Following his move to Old Trafford, the 17-year-old has scored 9 goals in just 10 appearances, including 2 braces in the FA Youth Cup and a hat-trick for the Under 18s against Nottingham Forest.

Last month, Obi-Martin made his first appearance at Under 21 level, starting the 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in Premier League 2.

Amorim does not trust his two main strikers

No matter how much he denies it, it’s clear that the United boss isn’t particularly keen on either Hojlund or Zirkzee based on his recent selection decisions.

Rather than start either forward against Crystal Palace last weekend, Amorim opted to use Kobbie Mainoo in a false nine role. The experiment backfired as the Red Devils failed to score in the 2-0 defeat.
