Alan Shearer Urges Manchester United To Make Sack Decision On Ruben Amorim After 4-1 Newcastle Loss

Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has said that Manchester United have no choice but to stick with Ruben Amorim amid the pressure on him.

The Man United boss is under considerable pressure after he saw his side lose 4-1 to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon in a game where the Red Devils were simply outclassed by the Magpies.

Sando Tonali took the lead before Manchester United equalised via Alejandro Garnacho in the 37th minute. However, Harvey Barnes netted twice and Bruno Guimaraes added to Newcastle’s tally to take down United in a 4-1 defeat.

It leaves them 14th in the league table, and it has now been confirmed that they will finish on their lowest points tally ever in the Premier League era, something that has mounted the pressure on Amorim.

Shearer urges Manchester United to stick with Amorim

Despite the poor quality of the result on Sunday, former PL striker Shearer has said that the higher-ups at Man United need to stick with Amorim and give him the time to turn things around at Old Trafford.

He said on the Stick to Football Podcast: “They’re going to have to stick with him, I mean they’ve made the decision, he’s their manager. They’re going to have to give him two or three transfer windows, and crucially they’re going to have to load him with a load of money to go and spend.

“They’re in desperate need of a centre-forward, they’re in desperate need of a goalkeeper, and they’re in desperate need of legs in midfield. It needs fixing, its a huge job, so they have to stick with him.

“But I do think he is asking players to do something that they can’t do, and they’re really struggling to play in the system he’s trying to play.”

Who are the favourites to take over from Amorim?

If the higher-ups at Manchester United do decide to make another change at Old Trafford, who are the most likely candidates to take over from the former Sporting CP manager. According to SportsCasting former United manager Jose Mourinho is the favourite to take over from Amorim at odds of 4/1.

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna is also one of the favourites to take over at Old Trafford as he has previous experience coaching at the club. He is backed at 7/1.

After McKenna, Gareth Southgate (8/1), Thomas Frank (9/1), and Xavi (10/1) are the next most likely according to the odds.
