Manchester United keen to land Croatia star after impressive World Cup displays

Manchester United are keen to land midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer after his impressive displays for Croatia at the World Cup, according to reports.

Kovacic starred as Croatia breezed through the group stages, beating all of Nigeria, Argentina and Iceland en route to the last-16 of the tournament.

And his performances in the middle of the park have caught the attention of Manchester United, who are now keen to bring the 24-year-old to Old Trafford after the conclusion of the tournament.

Jose Mourinho is keen to further bolster his options in midfield after a trophy-less last campaign, and has reportedly identified Kovacic as one of his top targets.

The Croatian star, currently of Real Madrid, is widely expected to leave the Bernabeu this summer after growing frustrated at his lacking of playing time.

Kovacic made just 10 starts in La Liga last term, with former Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane preferring Brazilian Casemiro in centre midfield.

Should United move for the Croatia international, Cadena Cope say they will face competition from both AS Roma and Juventus, who are both eyeing up moves for the Madrid midfielder.
