Manchester United winger Amad Diallo may be unavailable due to injury until the summer, according to BBC reporter Simon Stone.
The journalist, who is usually very reliable, says that the Ivorian has suffered ankle ligament damage and there is a good chance that he “could miss [the] rest of [the] season.”
Amad took to Instagram on Saturday to confirm his injury setback, stating that he is “extremely disappointed” to be sidelined.
He even hinted at the seriousness of the problem, saying that he would “be out for some time”.
Which games will Amad miss?
Even if the 22-year-old is only out for several weeks, he could be absent for matches against Tottenham, Everton, Ipswich Town, Fulham (in the FA Cup), Arsenal and Leicester.
If Amad doesn’t return after the international break next month, he may also be sidelined for the Manchester derby, as well as key fixtures against Newcastle and Chelsea.
United have suffered several injuries over the past few days
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, head coach Ruben Amorim hinted that there had been some big fitness setbacks in training.
In addition to Amad, it is believed that Kobbie Mainoo will be out for at least a couple of weeks with an unspecified injury. Toby Collyer and Manuel Ugarte are also said to be doubts to face Spurs on Sunday evening.
Amorim is already without five other players, including Mason Mount, Jonny Evans, Altay Bayindir, Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez.
Considering the club’s poor form, the fact that United are also now having to deal with an injury crisis will make things even tougher for Amorim, who has admitted he has been feeling the pressure of the job due to some bad results in recent weeks.
