REPORT: Manchester United Eyeing Turkish Goalkeeper As Dean Henderson Replacement

Manchester United are in the hunt for another goalkeeper, following the departure of David De Gea – they have Fenerbahce shot-stopper Altay Bayındır in their sights, according to a report from Turkish sports media outlet CNN Turk.

Talks are currently in their primordial stages – while United have yet to submit an official transfer offer for the player, their interest seems to be apparent.

With long-standing goalkeeper David De Gea having left the club and Dean Henderson reportedly set to follow him out of the exit door, United need to sign some ‘keepers.

They have already brought one to the club – Andre Onana – but currently, should Henderson leave the club, their only other option between the sticks would be 37-year-old Tom Heaton.

Will Altay Bayindir feature in the Manchester United first team often?

With United’s capture of Andre Onana earlier in the window, it is difficult to see Bayindir receiving many starts for the Red Devils next season.

Onana is currently one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the moment – this was clearly evidenced during the Champions League final, where he made a collection of excellent saves for Inter Milan against Manchester City.

While Bayindir is an excellent ‘keeper, he is not on Onana’s level as of yet – however, at the relatively young age of 25, he still has plenty of time to develop and grow as a professional footballer.

Will Bayindir be an improvement over Dean Henderson?

Henderson is a fine goalkeeper – his shot-stopping is some of the best in the division – but his other goalkeeping attributes are somewhat lacking.

Not only is his long distribution somewhat substandard, his technical ability also isn’t the greatest. Additionally, his handling of the ball could also use some improvement.

Ten Hag wants his teams to be able to play out from the back – naturally, this includes involvement from the goalkeeper. Due to this, Henderson isn’t the greatest fit for United at this moment.

Bayindir, on the other hand, is much more well-rounded than the former Sheffield United loanee. While he will struggle to break into the first team ahead of Onana, he will be an excellent deputy to the Cameroonian superstar.
