Erik Ten Hag has prioritised other Manchester United players over winger Antony who is frustrated at his lack of game time. 

The winger hasn’t started a game for United yet this season and when asked about it, Ten Hag was quick to defend his decisions to leave Antony out of the starting XI.

He told MUTV: “The other players are doing so well and are contributing. We have Amad [Diallo] and Garna [Garnacho] who have been very effective, with Rashford scoring at the weekend…

“He has to earn the right in training. The others are doing well so he has to get over them.”

Some Manchester United fans have reacted badly to Ten Hag’s comments due to the recent poor form from Marcus Rashford, they took to X to voice their opinions.

Rashford was awful the whole last season, but still, he played him every game. I don’t trust this manager. If Ten Hag selects players through merits, Garnacho should play over Rashford. He dropped Antony as he reacted badly when he asked to play as a left back against Liverpool

Rashford’s recent poor form for Manchester United

Marcus Rashford has faced a lot of criticism in recent weeks as he has started this season almost as poorly as he ended last season.

The England international missed out on the Euro 2024 squad after what was arguably his worst season as a United player last year scoring just seven goals in 33 games.

Despite scoring in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Southampton over the weekend, many are calling for Erik Ten Hag to drop the attacker in favour of someone like Antony.

How does Antony compare to Rashford?

Antony has been at Manchester United since Ten Hag signed him from his former side Ajax in 2022 for a fee of £80 million. He was a player that Ten Hag loved at Ajax so why isn’t he getting a chance for United?

It seems that the manager favours Marcus Rashford over Antony, but is that a fair assessment of their form?

Last season, Rashford scored seven in 33 and Antony scored just one in 29, so is Ten Hag right to leave the Brazilian out of the starting XI?
