Manchester United chasing Xherdan Shaqiri

Manchester United have reportedly joined the race alongside Liverpool to sign Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Swiss international, whose side were recently knocked out of the World Cup at the hands of Sweden, has already revealed his desire to leave the Potters this summer following their relegation to the Championship, and has insisted he wants to remain in England playing in the Premier League.

Shaqiri was one of few bright sparks in the Stoke camp last season, scoring eight goals. But he was unable to prevent Stoke inevitably getting relegated, and now the time has come for him to move on.

Following his World Cup exit, the 26-year-old can now focus once again on club football, and recently insisted he wants to remain in England – despite staying tight lipped on where.

“At the moment, I can’t say anything. You are going to hear soon on my future,” said Shaqiri.

“I was not thinking about this because I was just focused on my national team and wanted to make a good tournament for my team and my nation. It’s pretty normal to be aware of clubs being interested.

“I don’t know, it’s not dependant on me sometimes. Of course, I would like to play on the biggest stage in football. Everybody knows that.

“I hope I can stay in the Premier League. I hope so, you never know with football. I don’t rule out anything.”

Reports this Thursday claim Jose Mourinho wants the speedy forward at Old Trafford this summer, hoping to fend off competition from bitter rivals Liverpool for his signature.
