Manchester United 2 – 1 Watford: Player Ratings

Manchester United snatched a last minute win against Watford this afternoon in what was, in all, a well deserved 3 points.

United dominated the game from the start and took the lead through Memphis’ brilliant strike – assisted by Ander Herrera’s exquisite cross. The Dutchman, 21, has had a lot of criticism in recent times due to his rather lax start to life at Old Trafford. Since his hyped £25m move in the summer, where he was rewarded the famous No.7 shirt, Memphis has failed to live up to early expectations.

However, the forward was given a chance to prove himself today with Van Gaal starting him upfront. He certainly repaid the managers decision with a man of the match performance.

Despite dominating for the first hour or so, United failed to double their lead. They paid the price late on, when Marcos Rojo stupidly gave away a penalty with 5 minutes to go. Troy Deeney converted, and United fans must’ve been devastated with their woeful luck. But, there was one last twist in the tale to come. Bastian Schweinsteiger latched onto Watford ‘keeper Gomes’ parried save, and forced Deeney to go from hero to zero and score an own goal.

So as the game ended 2-1 to United, the only real downside was that Herrera limped off with a suspected hamstring injury.

There must also be a special mention for David De Gea, who pulled off one of the saves of the season in order to deny a Watford goal. Dave Saves, again!

We take a look at how well the Reds played, scoring their performances out of 10.
