Manchester City star refuses to rule out controversial Old Trafford switch

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has refused to rule out the possibility of moving to Old Trafford.

The Ivorian is a free agent after having left City at the end of the season.

A number of Premier League clubs, including West Ham and Newcastle, have been linked with taking on the veteran midfielder, who is understood to favour staying in England over moving abroad.

However the 35-year-old’s latest comments seem to suggest he could be set to make the controversial switch across the city to Manchester United.

When asked about potentially replacing Michael Carrick at Old Trafford, he told the Manchester Evening News: “Yeah he just left. Let’s see, let’s see.

“I don’t rule big teams out. The big teams are very important for me. What they want to achieve, the way they want to go, for me is very important.

“I want to go somewhere I can win and achieve. It’s going to be hard one day to play against City, but I have to do that. It is part of my job.”

As well as the potential of replacing Michael Carrick, Toure has also said he wants to play with Paul Pogba before his retirement.

The pair of drawn a number of comparisons over the past few seasons for their similar styles of play, and Toure believes he can be the man to help the Frenchman realise his full potential.

“Pogba is the same size, power – but different in the way he wants to go. Technically as well, the ability to score goals as well. It is a player I want to play with, to be honest, just to teach him some things.”
