Manager Reacts To Transfer Speculation Linking £105m Rated Playmaker With United Switch

Benfica manager Bruno Lage has played down speculation that playmaker Joao Felix could be leaving the club.

The 18-year-old has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent weeks.

Lage has, however, stated that Felix should not be focused on a move away from the Estadio da Luz:

“Joao is a youngster with a lot of potential. There is a lot of talk about him with respect to many things, but I only like to refer to what he does on the pitch and not what he can do away from it.”

“If you know him, he’s a youngster that has his feet firmly on the ground. He deals with everything that is going on with total calm.”

United are reportedly keen to strengthen their squad with younger players in the summer with the Portuguese Under 21 international having been scouted a number of times by the Red Devils.

Still, Felix has a €120m (£105m) release clause which would likely need to be triggered for any transfer to go ahead.

Since making his debut for Benfica’s first team against Boavista back in August, the teenager has racked up nine goals and five assists in 29 appearances.

Felix has been in superb form recently having scored and created another in Benfica’s thumping 10-0 win against Nacional last week.
