Romano Weighs In On New Reports That £62M Chelsea And Arsenal Target Has “Agreement With Man United”

Manchester United are “not in advanced or concrete talks” to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the journalist played down claims that the Red Devils are poised to snap up the Nigerian international.

“Despite reports in the last 2-3 days saying Osimhen has an agreement with Man Utd, there’s still no confirmation on this. United are not in advanced or concrete talks for Osimhen.”

“They have more names on their list. United still don’t know how much they’ll spend on a striker, and Osimhen will not reduce his salary.”

Where did the Osimhen rumours come from?

It all stems from a report that was published by Napoli Magazine, which was taken out of context. The publication said that the striker was 95% certain to leave Italy this summer, and they named the Red Devils, Arsenal and Chelsea as the three teams most likely to make an offer.

However, some miscontrued those remarks to make it seem that an agreement with United had been reached. Romano and others have since put the record straight.

Could United still sign the forward?

Osimhen has spoken out over the last week to say that he hasn’t made a decision on his future. He is focused on completing his loan spell with Galatasaray first before considering his options.

Napoli included a release clause in his contract which means that foreign clubs can sign him for €75m (£62m) this summer. A lot will depend on whether Ruben Amorim’s side are prepared to pay that fee as well as match the player’s wages.

Osimhen is currently earning just over £200,000 a week. There are 3 players in United’s squad that earn more than that (Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount), but INEOS’s cost-cutting means they may be reluctant to hand out such a salary to new signings.
