Man Utd are “in talks” with Tottenham Hotspur about signing winger Tynan Thompson, according to The Standard reporter Sam Tabuteau.

Confirming information from insider Secret Scout, the journalist posted on X to say that the Red Devils are hoping to secure the 18-year-old’s services.

Thompson has only recently signed a professional contract with Spurs, so the Red Devils cannot simply poach him from their Premier League rivals. A fee will have to be agreed for the teenager.

What do Man Utd fans need to know about the player?

Thompson started out with Lambeth Tigers’ youth team before joining Tottenham’s academy. He has moved up through their ranks over the last few years, playing Under 18 and Under 21 football.

However, his performances in the UEFA Youth League likely attracted the attention of United. He scored 7 goals in 7 appearances as Tottenham made it to the first knockout round last season.

Thompson’s most notable performance was the hat-trick he scored during the 9-1 rout of Slavia Prague in the group stage.

Would Thompson become part of United’s first-team setup?

The forward has still not made his senior debut yet, so it is unlikely that he would be given first-team opportunities straight away by manager Michael Carrick.

However, Thompson would not consider leaving Tottenham unless he has been given guarantees of a pathway to senior football. It may well be the case that he is sent out on loan to a lower-tier club next campaign if he does complete his switch to Old Trafford.
