Romano Reveals Man Utd Have Added Striker With £40M Release Clause To 5 Man Shortlist

Manchester United are among the teams interested in signing Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano said that the 22-year-old is one of 4 or 5 forwards that the Red Devils are looking at ahead of the summer transfer window:

“There are several clubs attentive to the situation [of Delap], from Chelsea as they were already keen in January to Manchester United who’ve add 4/5 names to the striker list and will also decide based on budget availability. The expectation is for a summer move, for sure.”

It is believed that Delap has a £40m release clause in his contract which could tempt United into making a move for him at the end of the season.

Delap has plenty of admirers

As Romano mentions, Chelsea have a longstanding interest in the England Under 21 international but it is thought that his former club Manchester City (who have a buyback option), Liverpool and Newcastle are also keeping tabs on his progress.

It means Ruben Amorim’s side may have their work cut out if they do decide Delap is their preferred target. He is not exactly going to be short of offers.

Who else is on Man Utd’s shortlist?

Romano has only confirmed one other name and that is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. He was, however, keen to emphasise that the Red Devils have not made any concrete steps to buy the Nigerian.

The main obstacle is the cost of signing the forward. His release clause is €75m (£59m), which is much higher than Delap’s. With no budget having been set ahead of the summer, the club are not in a position to determine whether they have enough money to buy Osimhen. Things are expected to change on that front over the coming weeks.
