Manchester United are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, according to reports in Germany.
Tabloid Bild claim that trhe 24-year-old has caught the eye of scouts with head coach Ruben Amorim seeking to strengthen his options in the middle of the park.
Nmecha came through Manchester City’s academy before going on to make his senior debut for the club against Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup semi-final at the beginning of 2019.
However, he would only make two more first-team appearances before being let go on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
Nmecha ended up joining Wolfsburg for two seasons ahead of his switch to Dortmund at the beginning of last campaign.
Dortmund are reluctant sellers
United do have a chance of buying Nmecha but there are a couple of things that will have to go in their favour for the player to become available.
Dortmund won’t need to sell if they qualify for the Champions League. However, they are 10 points adrift of the top 4 with eight games to go so it does look almost certain they will miss out.
Even with that obstacle overcome, though, there is still no guarantee that they will offload Nmecha to United. Bild report that there are at least three other players that the German side will look to sell first in order to balance the books.
How much would United need to pay for Nmecha?
£40m is the figure that could be enough to tempt Dortmund into parting ways with the player. That is not a small amount, considering United’s financial situation.
It may be a deal that is explored later in the summer when the Red Devils have had a chance to raise some funds for new signings.
