Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has closed the door on a move to Man Utd, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel (quotes via The Express), Romano said that the Frenchman “is not changing his mind”, and he is even keener to remain at the Bernabeu following Real’s failure to sign Rodri from Man City:
“Many questions I’ve received in recent days were about Eduardo Camavinga, whether there’s still a possibility for United or for other clubs. But the answer Camavinga is giving to all the clubs, United and those interested before United, has always been the same – Camavinga wants to stay at Real Madrid.”
“He wants to continue at Real Madrid and is not changing his mind. And so, as of today, there are no changes, and he insists on staying at Real Madrid. And now, with Rodri not joining Real Madrid, Camavinga is even more motivated to stay and continue trying to convince Jose Mourinho.”
Man Utd have been in touch with the player’s agent
Camavinga is one of two midfielders who Romano claims the Red Devils have seriously considered signing over the past month.
He revealed three weeks ago that the Manchester club had “conversations” with the representatives of the 23-year-old, having done the same with Roma’s Manu Kone. However, neither deal has progressed beyond those initial talks.
Will the club pursue alternatives to Camavinga?
It is believed that Director of Football Jason Wilcox and manager Michael Carrick have put signing a third midfielder on the back burner. The likes of Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams and Fulham’s Sander Berge have been suggested as potential targets, but a move for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba looks unlikely after the Cameroon international picked up an injury.
The current focus appears to be on strengthening at left-back, with Newcastle’s Lewis Hall, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, RB Leipzig’s David Raum and Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas all mentioned as options in reports since the beginning of August.
