RB Leipzig captain David Raum is open to joining Man Utd this summer, according to reports.
TEAMtalk claim that the German international has “previously spoken” to the Red Devils about making the switch to Old Trafford, and he is “happy” to compete with Luke Shaw for a starting spot at left-back if the Manchester club do try to sign him
Raum has less than a year left on his contract at Leipzig, and he will be available for a fee below his €40m (£34m) release clause.
An offer close to £30m is likely to be enough to secure the fullback’s services before the transfer window shuts.
Raum played at the World Cup
The 28-year-old had a great campaign for his club, scoring 3 goals and providing 9 assists in 34 appearances. He was rewarded with a spot in Germany’s 26-man World Cup squad, having started regularly in his country’s qualification campaign.
However, Raum didn’t play as much as he hoped at the tournament itself, featuring in just two games – coming on as a substitute in the first group game against Curacao, and starting the third match versus Ecuador. He has 39 caps in total for Germany at senior level.
Man Utd have shortlisted several left-backs
Raum is reportedly among the alternatives under consideration if Director of Football Jason Wilcox can’t secure the club’s top target – Lewis Hall.
In an ideal world, United would still prefer to pursue the former Chelsea player, but Newcastle have seemingly closed all doors to a potential transfer away from St James’ Park, prompting the Red Devils to look elsewhere.
Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys and Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas are the two younger options on Wilcox’s shortlist, while Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert is seen as a more experienced choice, along with Raum.
