West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville is Man Utd’s “number one target” to strengthen the left flank, according to reports.

Sky Sports claim that talks about signing the Netherlands international have already taken place, but the transfer is unlikely to be finalised anytime soon.

Summerville is seen as a replacement for Marcus Rashford, and the Red Devils want to use funds from the England star’s sale to finance their bid.

With Rashford’s future not expected to be resolved before he returns from the World Cup, there is a danger that United could miss out on Summerville.

Tottenham are keen on the Man Utd target

As with Mateus Fernandes, it looks as though Michael Carrick’s side could go head to head with Spurs in the race for Summerville.

The delay in offloading Rashford, though, could play into the hands of their rivals, and losing out on a second West Ham player would certainly not be a good look.

What is the situation with Rashford?

United are willing to sell the 28-year-old, with an asking price of around £40m. While some Premier League clubs may be prepared to pay the sum, the player is reportedly not interested in joining another English team.

If Rashford does leave Old Trafford, he is expected to move abroad. Barcelona are said to be open to another loan deal, but that is not an option which is seriously being contemplated by United.

The two likeliest scenarios are a) he is sold to a team on the continent and some of the proceeds are used to sign Summerville and b) he stays and is reintegrated into the first-team setup.

Sky Sports believe it could be August before we discover what the future holds for Rashford, so there is set to be several more weeks of transfer speculation.
