Man Utd Make Enquiries About £32M Rated Netherlands Star Amid Claims That Amorim Is About To Drop 1st Team Starter

Manchester United have made enquiries about Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, according to reports in Italy.

The 22-year-old is expected to be in demand this summer and the Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that the Red Devils are one of the clubs who have “asked for information” about the shot-stopper.

Verbruggen is Netherlands’ No.1 keeper, having moved to Brighton from Anderlecht for £16.3m at the start of last season.

He was actually linked with a move to Old Trafford prior to joining the Seagulls and it’s likely that United’s scouts have kept an eye on him over the past couple of years.

Verbruggen won’t be available on the cheap

Gazzetta report that Brighton are likely to demand more than double what they paid to sign the Dutchman (roughly £32m), although some have put his asking price even higher at around £60m.

That would be a lot to spend on a new number one and it remains to be seen if United have the financial resources to make such a bid.

It has been suggested that head coach Ruben Amorim is seriously considering dropping current first choice Andre Onana after his errors against Lyon, so the Red Devils may have to find room in the transfer budget for someone like Verbruggen.

United will have competition for the goalkeeper

It is believed that Verbruggen does have other suitors. AC Milan are keeping an eye on him as they consider potential replacements for Mike Maignan.

Bayern Munich are also said to have made enquiries as they seek a long-term successor for Manuel Neuer, while Chelsea have been credited with an interest in recent months too.

It means the Red Devils will have several obstacles to overcome if they want to secure Verbruggen’s services.
