Man Utd secured their first victory of the season in a topsy-turvy encounter against Ipswich Town on a rainy Sunday evening.

Michael Carrick’s men struggled to impose their game on the opposition in the first half, and the visitors went 1-0 up from a well-struck shot hit by Leif Davis. However, Bruno Fernandes pounced on an error from the visitors to ensure the Red Devils went into the break on level terms.

After the interval, it was one-way traffic. A controversial own goal (from a Harry Maguire shot) got the home side into the lead, before Fernandes made it three from the penalty spot soon afterwards. The captain got a hat-trick when he slotted home from close range, with Bryan Mbeumo completing the rout with an excellent lob over Ipswich’s 6ft 9 keeper Kjell Scherpen. Chuba Akpom then got a consolation following a mistake from Lisandro Martinez.
