Man Utd Could Lose Out On 2nd Managerial Candidate Who Is ‘High’ On Their Shortlist After Tuchel

Man Utd managerial target Roberto De Zerbi is “interested” in the Tottenham job, and he sees the vacancy as the “next logical step” in his career, according to reports.

The I Paper claim the Italian is keen on getting back into management straight away after parting ways with Marseille earlier this week.

De Zerbi’s attacking brand of football is seen as the right fit to succeed Thomas Frank, whose style of play was heavily criticised by Spurs fans.

United would be disappointed if De Zerbi does take the job. The Red Devils are waiting until the summer to make a decision on their next permanent manager.

It is believed the former Brighton head coach features “high” on their shortlist, but Tottenham’s ability to move immediately could jeopardise any hopes United have of appointing him at the end of the season.

Man Utd have already missed out on Tuchel

It was confirmed on Thursday that Thomas Tuchel has signed a two-year contract extension to remain with England.

The German was initially set to leave the Three Lions after the World Cup, and he would have been a prime candidate to take the position in the Old Trafford dugout.

Tuchel was seriously considered as a replacement for Erik ten Hag in the summer of 2024 before the decision was made to keep the Dutchman. Now, it seems he has ruled himself out from taking the United job for a second time.

Is waiting to hire a new manager costing the club?

Delaying the appointment of a permanent successor to Ruben Amorim was initially seen as a good thing, but these latest developments may leave some wondering whether it was the right choice.

It should be pointed out that Tuchel was only going to be available in the summer anyway, while it is still not confirmed whether De Zerbi will be Tottenham’s favoured candidate, despite the 46-year-old’s interest in the job.

Most supporters will also be keen to see whether Michael Carrick can build on his strong start to life as interim boss before any decision is made.
