Wayne Rooney Says He Is “100%” Sure Who Should Be The Next Man Utd Manager

Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney has given his full backing to Michael Carrick becoming the club’s next permanent manager.

The Red Devils have won 7, drawn 2 and lost 1 of Carrick‘s ten matches in charge since being appointed on an interim basis back in January, and Rooney thinks he should stay on beyond the end of the season:

“100% he should [get the job]. I have said this. I knew this was going to happen with Michael Carrick. I know him very well. I know his character, his personality. It needed a calm head, but someone who knows the place and the players needed some love, and he has given them that.”

“We have seen the players play with more quality, more together as a team, and they look like a very strong team. For me, why would you change? He has got the best winning percentage of any Manchester United manager after that many games. For me, he has to get the job.”

What are the odds of Carrick getting the job permanently?

The bookmakers have priced him at odds-on to stay in the post beyond the summer. In contrast, other potential candidates have pretty long odds.

Second favourite Julian Nagelsmann is currently ranked at between 7/1 and 10/1, while Luis Enrique, Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner are priced between 12/1 and 25/1 depending on which betting firm you look at.

Man Utd will take their time before making a decision

While Rooney is urging his former club to hire Carrick, it does appear as if the Red Devils will be going through a long and exhaustive process before appointing their next manager.

Having made several errors since taking over the club’s football operations, INEOS need to make absolutely sure that they get this decision spot on.
