At the time of writing, former Manchester United player and assistant coach Michael Carrick is the favourite to be appointed the club’s manager on an interim basis until the end of the season.

It is believed that the 44-year-old is in pole position for the role after a positive meeting with the club’s board over the weekend.

Carrick will have plenty of problems to fix if he does enter through the doors at Carrington, some of which need to be addressed immediately.
