Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand says he would hire Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique ahead of Michael Carrick if the Spaniard was up for the job.

Enrique has guided PSG to their second successive Champions League final, and Ferdinand thinks he would be the perfect candidate to take the hot seat at Old Trafford:

“The only people I would be looking at seriously and going, do you know what, regardless of what he has done, I think, Luis Enrique. If he came up for grabs, he is the manager of the current Champions League, the current team that are in there to win it, back-to-back titles and the best team on the planet, right, he is a great manager.”

“If he is available, I don’t care what Michael Carrick has done, you take him because of what he has achieved, okay.”

Enrique does have fans on the board

It was reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano back in April that the 56-year-old was someone that the Red Devils would seriously consider pursuing if he were available.

However, even though Enrique does have only a year left on his contract at PSG, there is a general expectation that he will put pen to paper on an extension.

Man Utd executives have already made their decision

Multiple sources have confirmed that Director of Football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada will recommend to Sir Jim Ratcliffe that Carrick should be appointed on a permanent basis.

The former Middlesbrough manager has secured Champions League football, having won 10, drawn 3 and lost 2 of his 15 matches in charge since replacing Ruben Amorim as interim head coach back in January.

If Carrick’s appointment is made official over the coming days, plans will then be set in motion to secure the club’s top transfer targets.
