“A Real Threat” – Tim Sherwood Rows Back Comments On Man Utd Player He Said Should Never Wear The Shirt Again

Benjamin Sesko’s biggest critic, Tim Sherwood, has given the Man Utd striker some praise following his equaliser against West Ham earlier this week.

The Sky Sports pundit was extremely critical of the Slovenian international earlier in the season, stating at one point that he shouldn’t wear a Man United shirt again after a poor first-half performance against Burnley. However, speaking about Sesko’s goal on Tuesday night, Sherwood said:

“It’s a directive from Michael Carrick to get the ball into the box because this boy’s nothing without service, and when you give him the service, he never got any service when he was playing for Ruben Amorim. None at all. You were scratching your head, saying how can this boy play for Man United?

“He can’t link play, but when he’s playing under Michael Carrick, getting the ball in wide areas, putting it into the box, and he’s a real threat. Fantastic finish from him.”

Sherwood was speaking through gritted teeth

It’s clear that the former Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham midfielder doesn’t rate Sesko. Even when he is praising the 22-year-old, he can’t help himself by saying that he can’t hold up the ball.

This is all the more bizarre considering Sherwood once took a gamble on Harry Kane. He gave the young forward his first Premier League start for Tottenham in 2014, so he clearly knows that strikers need to be given chances to shine.

Sesko’s record since moving to Man Utd

The Slovenian still has a long way to go to justify his £73.7m price tag, but he is averaging a goal every 183 minutes for the Red Devils, which is not a bad return whatsoever.

Of course, there are aspects of Sesko’s game that need to be improved, but he has plenty of time on his side, and pundits like Sherwood should really know better.
