Former Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Didi Hamann believes Man Utd striker Benjamin Sesko is very capable of scoring up to 25 goals a season for the Red Devils.
Pundits, including Gary Neville, have questioned the Slovenian’s start to life at Old Trafford, but Hamann told footballblog.co.uk that there is a lot more to come from Sesko:
“I think he’s done okay so far, but we certainly haven’t seen the best yet because he’s an exceptional talent.”
“People in Salzburg said at 16, 17, when he came to the club, he was better than Erling Haaland. Obviously, that’s not the case at the moment, but I think potentially he could be a player who scores 20, 25 goals every season.”
Sesko’s slow start at Man Utd
The 22-year-old has not really found his shooting boots yet. He went 6 games before he got his first goal against Brentford. He followed that up with another strike versus Sunderland.
However, Sesko has now failed to score in his last three appearances, firing blanks against Liverpool, Brighton and Nottingham Forest since the last international break.
The Haaland comparisons do not help
As Hamann mentions, Sesko has taken a similar path to Erling Haaland, having played at Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg before moving to Germany.
Haaland hit the ground running when he arrived at City in 2022, before going on to break the Premier League record for most goals scored in a single season.
Sesko was never going to reach that standard, but it is fair to say that fans were expecting more than 2 goals from his first 11 appearances, especially after United spent in excess of £70m to secure his services. It will be hoped that Hamann’s prediction about his goal return will be proven correct over the next few years.
