Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith doesn’t think Man Utd boss Michael Carrick can afford to lose to Tottenham after the international break.
Speaking exclusively to Man U News (courtesy of Best Betting Sites UK), Smith stopped short of saying that Carrick would be fired if his team suffers defeat in that fixture, but he would be under massive pressure:
“I can’t speak for the hierarchy there, and how they’re feeling, but to lose to Spurs, at Old Trafford, in front of their own fans, there’d be plenty of boos there. And yeah, he is under the cosh; there’s no doubt about it. It’s not been a great start to the season. You want to give a manager time.”
“But yeah, it would just increase the pressure. I’m not saying he would get the sack, but there’d be so many questions levelled at him if they were to lose to Spurs at Old Trafford.”
Losing to winless Spurs would be tough to take for Man Utd fans
Roberto De Zerbi’s side are currently bottom of the table, with 2 draws and 3 defeats from their first 5 games. They won’t be coming to Old Trafford in confident mood.
Of course, United won’t be heading into the game in the best shape themselves, having secured one solitary win from their first 5 fixtures, but they will be favourites to take all three points as they are at home.
What are the odds for Man Utd vs Tottenham?
The Red Devils are currently odds-on at the bookmakers. A draw is priced between 29/10 and 10/3, while Spurs are not fancied to secure victory whatsoever, with De Zerbi’s men given odds between 10/3 and 7/2.
Carrick simply needs to get back to winning ways, or, as Smith says, A LOT of questions will be asked about his future.
