Man Utd legend Roy Keane doesn’t think Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola should be in the running for the hot seat at Old Trafford.

While he says the Spaniard has “done an amazing job” with the Cherries, Keane questions whether he would be able to handle the responsibility of managing United:

“I’m not sure if he’s done enough yet. I’m sure United are looking at him; his contract is up. But could I see him coming to Man Utd? Probably not.”

“There is a different pressure at Bournemouth to Man Utd. Would he be an option? I don’t know. You’ve asked me if I see him coming to Man Utd, maybe not. But he has done an amazing job.”

Iraola has fans within the club

It is believed that the 43-year-old has been discussed as a possible option to succeed Michael Carrick as the next permanent head coach.

However, no formal talks have been held with Iraola, and there are no indications at this stage that they will give him an interview.

Who is the favourite to become the next Man Utd manager?

The 3-2 win over Liverpool has cemented Carrick’s position as the leading contender to get the job. Bookmakers have him at odds-on to stay at the club beyond the summer.

Iraola is deemed second favourite, but his price has lengthened considerably to between 3/1 and 8/1, depending on which betting firm you look at.

Other names, such as Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, have very long odds now.

It does appear as if it is a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’, Carrick gets the job. Some, including former teammate Gary Neville, have reservations over whether that would be the right move, but the results that he has managed to attain since his arrival in January have been very impressive.
