Mason Mount

The attacking midfielder has not made the matchday squad since Carrick’s first match in charge – the Manchester derby.

Mount has missed seven subsequent fixtures with an unspecified problem, and asked for an update last week, Carrick insisted that the England international is not far from returning to the fray:

“Mason is getting closer, really. He’s on the grass, and he’s getting closer; he’s looking to train and be in around it pretty soon.”

“He’s getting close. He’s just had to be patient, really, and he’s a big player, so we’re looking after him, making sure he’s ready for a big finish to the season. The good news is he’s getting really close.”

Expected Return Date – Sunday 15th March vs Aston Villa (a)

Matthijs de Ligt

The centre-back has not played since the win over Crystal Palace at the end of November due to a chronic back problem.

There appears to be light at the end of the tunnel, though, with reports suggesting that de Ligt is aiming to be available again before the end of this month.

Expected Return Date – March

Patrick Dorgu

The Denmark international tore his hamstring in the second half of the 3-2 win over Arsenal in late January.

Initial estimates predicted that Dorgu would be on the treatment table for around 10 weeks, which suggests he will be back in contention by mid-April. The target will be the first game after the next international break.

Expected Return Date – Monday 13th April vs Leeds United (h)
