Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed that Joshua Zirkzee has no chance of featuring against Lyon on Thursday night.
The Netherlands international pulled up with a hamstring injury early in the second half of the 4-1 defeat to Newcastle at the weekend, and asked about Zikzee’s chances of playing in the Europa League quarter-final second leg, Amorim replied:
“Josh, I think he will be out for some games. So, let’s focus on the next one [against Lyon].”
Obviously, that update didn’t go down too well with supporters on X who questioned why Zirkzee was risked against the Magpies in the first place:
Why the hell was he even playing . This match has no significance at all

Let’s just pack up the season and hope we can do some great business in the summer (highly unlikely)

Any hope of Amad coming this month? Otherwise, Europa is over

I don’t understand why he was benched against Lyon but was rather used for this game. He’s not a great striker but he’s way better than that clown

Hojlund will start against Lyon
With Chido Obi ineligible to play in the Europa League, it leaves Amorim with only one available striker heading into Thursday’s fixture.
Rasmus Hojlund has toiled during his second season at Old Trafford and not many fans are holding out hope that he will produce the goods in what will be the biggest game of the campaign so far.
