Amorim says that he expects the midfielder to return to fitness “faster” than captain Bruno Fernandes.
Mainoo picked up a calf injury in training the day before the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend.
The 20-year-old won’t be in the matchday squad to take on Newcastle, and at the moment, there is no estimate on when he could make his comeback.
It can be assumed, though, that Mainoo is unlikely to play before the end of December as things stand.
