Man Utd Injury News And Return Dates: Updates On Benjamin Sesko And Matthijs De Ligt

Man Utd striker Benjamin Sesko is not expected to return for the club’s final game of the season.

The Slovenian international aggravated a shin injury during the Red Devils’ 3-2 win over Liverpool at the start of this month.

Sesko went off at halftime after scoring in the first 45 minutes of the game, and he hasn’t been seen since.

The forward sat out the draw against Sunderland and the victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Carrick’s side travel to Brighton on the final day of the campaign this weekend, but Sesko is unlikely to be in the matchday squad for the trip to the South Coast.

Expected Return Date – Next Season

Matthijs de Ligt

The club have confirmed that the Netherlands international has had an operation that will keep him on the sidelines until the “early part of the 2026/27 season”

De Ligt has been unavailable for five and a half months, and he has been working hard on getting back to fitness after suffering a back injury following the win against Crystal Palace in late November last year.

However,  it has been decided that the only way the centre-back can get back to full fitness is to undergo the knife. At the end of last week, United posted a statement on their website which said:

“Matthijs has undergone successful surgery to address a back injury… Having diligently worked throughout his rehab process, the decision was made that a corrective procedure was the best course of action.”

The consequence of that decision, however, means de Ligt will miss the final match of the campaign against Brighton, and he is unlikely to be available for the beginning of next campaign either.

Expected Return Date – August to October 2026
