Man United’s striker chase needs to be completed imminently

Manchester United’s transfer window so far hasn’t exactly gone to plan, with a major blow occurring as the Red Devils missed out on the services of prime-target Antoine Griezmann, but Jose Mourinho seems determined to change the situation as we close in on a busy pre-season campaign, with the latest reports suggesting a major transfer will be made that will send shockwaves throughout the Premier League and Europe.

Since missing out on Griezmann, Manchester United’s transfer window has been relatively messy as there has been a wealth of reports and speculation concerning who the Red Devils may move for. Whilst the rumours were ever present, there was a lack of progress on Manchester United’s part- but it seems that there was a reason behind this.

Heavily linked to Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, it appears that Mourinho was never fully sold on the idea of bringing the Spaniard to Old Trafford and he’s since pushed heavily to land the services of Romelu Lukaku from Everton in a move that would leave Premier League champions Chelsea stunned- potentially even leading Antonio Conte to walk.

Chelsea appeared to be the lone party in the pursuit for Lukaku but their reluctance to match Everton’s monstrous price-tag, which could be as much as £100m, has left the door open for Manchester United to hijack a move- and it’s clear the Belgian ace would be exactly the sort of signing the Red Devils need.

Despite winning three trophies last season, including a victory in the Europa League that handed Mourinho’s side a return to the Champions League, Manchester United still appeared to be a little short compared to their rivals and the addition of Lukaku could solve that issue immediately.

At just 24, Lukaku still has his best years ahead of him and Manchester United would make a major statement of intent by landing a striker who’s been amongst the Premier League’s finest for the past three years. However, they need to complete a deal swiftly.

Manchester United’s pre-season campaign includes an abundance of fixtures in North America, which will stretch Jose Mourinho’s squad ahead of the new campaign, but the positive is that it will allow the Red Devils to find their rhythm ahead of the new season- but they’ll need a striker like Lukaku to help them progress.

There’s just over a week until Manchester United kick-off their tour with a match against LA Galaxy across the pond, which means it’s unlikely Lukaku will be available for that match, but in an ideal world a deal will be wrapped up by the time the Red Devils clash with Manchester City on the 20th July.
