Man United’s pre-season going well as they beat rivals in USA

Manchester United have a lot of pressure on their shoulders ahead of the new season, following a disappointing Premier League showing last term that saw the Red Devils finish sixth in the standings, but Jose Mourinho’s side are making good progress this summer.

The Red Devils have spent heavily to bring Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford, two signings that will instantly improve their first-team, and Mourinho is keen on signing another big name before the close of the transfer window- with his prime-target believed to be Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

Amidst all of the transfer speculation, Manchester United are making great progress during their pre-season campaign and secured a morale-boosting victory over rivals Manchester City in the United States last night, with Belgian striker Lukaku again on the score-sheet.

Whilst a lot will be made of the result, the most important aspect was getting the players up to match fitness before the return of the Premier League in just 21 days time- and Mourinho was very pleased with the performance of his players. Quoted by the BBC, he said:

“I’m really pleased. I’m sure Pep [Guardiola] is the same. The most important thing was to give the players high quality training.”

The Red Devils still have a couple of fixtures in North America before the Premier League begins on the weekend of the 12th August, with Mourinho’s side set to tackle Real Madrid in California this weekend before facing Barcelona in Maryland next Wednesday.

Mourinho’s side complete their pre-season campaign with clashes against Valerenga and Sampdoria in Oslo and Dublin respectively, before commencing their new season against Real Madrid on August 8th; a match where the European Super Cup is up for grabs and it could well be worth claiming a Sky Vegas promo code to have a bet on the match as Jose Mourinho will be looking to pull off a big result over his former side.

Finding form is crucial ahead of the new season as Manchester United face a difficult start to the new season, with their first five fixtures in the Premier League consisting of West Ham at home, a trip to Swansea, hosting Leicester City, travelling to Stoke and then tackling Everton at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will hope to hit the ground running in the new campaign and avoid having to play catch-up with their Premier League rivals.
