Man United venture into the market to land two highly-rated youngsters

Manchester United fans may be on the edge of their seats anticipating major arrivals but some positive news has filtered out of Old Trafford, with confirmation that the Red Devils have secured the services of two highly-rated youngsters.

The Red Devils have landed two 16-year-old assets in the form of Frenchman Aliou Badara Traore and Northern Ireland U17’s captain Ethan Galbraith, with the duo penning four and three-year deals respectively.

Highly-rated French U16 international Traore arrives from Paris Saint-Germain’s youth set-up, which he reportedly left due to a lack of faith that he would be handed a path to the first-team in the French capital, and United beat the likes of Juventus and Manchester City to his signature.

Goal report Traore has signed a four-year deal to join Jose Mourinho’s side and he’s the latest young asset to join the Red Devils’ esteemed academy, although it’s likely fans will have to wait a few years before he links-up with the senior squad.

Elsewhere, a deal for Galbraith has been confirmed by Northern Ireland’s FA, who state the teenager is travelling to Manchester this weekend to put pen to paper on an initial one-year scholarship deal with the Red Devils, with a deal then including a two-year professional contract.

Whilst these two signings won’t flood the back pages and fill fans with a wealth of immediate excitement, it’s a significant coup for a Red Devils side who have faced challenges luring young talents to their academy in recent years.

The rise of Manchester City has given Mourinho’s side a big competitor right on their doorstep whilst Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham offer young talents an exciting opportunity in the capital, making the market for youth players very competitive.

The problem for Manchester United though is that Jose Mourinho is not renowned for utilising young talents, although the age of the pair means it’s likely to be a couple of years before they even have a chance of deputising for the senior squad- and it remains to be seen whether Mourinho will still be around.

United’s two new signings are likely to join the U18 squad next season, where they’ll unite with the exciting talents of the likes of Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes- both of whom have been linked with making an impression in Mourinho’s first-team.
