Man United turn their sights towards another Chelsea target

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United made a big move in the transfer market last week, landing Romelu Lukaku in an expensive deal from Premier League rivals Everton and crucially handing a blow to Chelsea in the process, as Antonio Conte was keen to bring the Belgian back to Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku’s arrival signals a major move for Manchester United as they wave goodbye to Wayne Rooney following 13 years of service at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils skipper returning to his boyhood club at Goodison Park, and the 24-year-old will fill the void left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s exit.

Manchester United have now added two names to their squad this summer, with Lukaku’s addition following the capture of Victor Lindelof from Benfica, and Jose Mourinho is now turning his attention towards new midfielders having already bolstered his attacking and defensive options.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur’s England international Eric Dier, as they seek a more defensive-minded midfielder to provide protection to their back line, but the Lilywhites are determined not to do business as they seek to improve upon their fantastic seasons in recent years.

That’s left Manchester United eyeing alternative recruits and they could return to hand another huge blow to Chelsea, as the latest reports suggest the Red Devils are looking to hijack the Blues swoop for Monaco ace Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The French midfielder has been identified as Antonio Conte’s prime midfield target this summer as he seeks to provide a top-class partner to N’Golo Kante at the heart of his side but the Blues have thus far failed to negotiate a deal, leaving the door open for Manchester United to swoop.

Mourinho has shown a willingness to spend whatever it takes to capture the targets he feels can help bring the Red Devils back to the summit of English football and they could easily match whatever demands the Ligue 1 champions make in the market, with Chelsea seeming reluctant to do so.

Signing Bakayoko ahead of Chelsea would be another major statement of intent from Mourinho’s side this summer, following a campaign where the Red Devils were sub-par in the Premier League, and it would help strengthen the club’s push for Premier League glory.

By handing Chelsea another blow in the market, it would also hand Manchester United another major boost and increase the pressure upon the Blues ahead of the new season- as the Premier League champions are yet to strengthen their side this summer.
