Manchester United have not entered talks to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
There has been speculation that the Nigerian international has chosen to join the Red Devils, but speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano insisted that only Al-Hilal and Galatasaray are currently “working on a deal” to secure the player’s signature:
“At the moment still no breakthrough in this story, and nothing will happen in the upcoming hours. I keep receiving many questions from Manchester United fans, but at the moment, I am not aware of concrete negotiations between Manchester United and Napoli for Victor Osimhen.”
“Remember that the player has a release clause of 75 million euros [£65m]. At the moment, Al-Hilal from Saudi and Galatasaray, where the player was on loan last season, keep working on a deal to get Victor Osimhen.”
“Galatasaray are trying, obviously, with a different financial proposal compared to the one from Al-Hilal. So both clubs are in conversations to sign Victor Osimhen.”
Man United are not in a position to sign a No.9
The Red Devils’ main focus at the moment is to snap up Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. Ruben Amorim’s side have already had two bids knocked back for the 25-year-old but they are hoping that a third will match the player’s £63m valuation.
Only when a deal to purchase Mbeumo has been wrapped up will the club likely switch their attention to bringing in an out-and-out number nine.
Sales may be needed to ensure that there are the necessary funds to pursue a striker of sufficient quality and Osimhen is not the only option being looked at.
Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins are also said to be names under consideration.
