EXCLUSIVE: Paul Parker Questions Man United’s £29m Transfer Decision Amid Harry Amass Claim

Former Man United defender Paul Parker has said that the Red Devils could have saved money by not signing Patrick Dorgu in the January transfer window.

United are hoping to end their season on a high by winning the Europa League and as a result, qualifying for the Champions League. If they do manage to do so, it would provide them with a much-needed financial boost heading into next year.

Ruben Amorim may have to sell big names in order to generate some transfer funds this summer, as the club are in a precarious position with regards to Profit and Sustainability Rules. Their most recent signing was Patrick Dorgu in the January transfer window.

They spent £29m to bring Dorgu to Old Trafford from Serie A minnows Lecce, a move that former United defender Parker has criticised amid the recent emergence of left-back Harry Amass.

Parker told ManU News exclusively via Betano: “There are some good bits about him [Dorgu], but there’s some not so good bits. I don’t think it’s helped his cause that the young lad Amass has come in and done well.”

“Now people are looking at that, and they will be questioning the manager why he wasn’t talked about. Why wasn’t he utilised, which could have maybe saved money [instead of signing Dorgu].

“I’m not going to be negative about him [Dorgu], because he comes from a very small club in Italy, he hasn’t experienced anything like he’s experienced at the moment – it doesn’t compare to what’s happening in the league here.”

Who is United starlet Harry Amass?

Amass has made three Premier League appearances for United this season, including a start against Newcastle United. He also came on for Dorgu during the second leg against Lyon in the Europa League, when United recorded their historic comeback to book a place in the semi-finals.

The 18-year-old came through the academy at Old Trafford, and is starting to get more and more game time, much like Chido Obi Martin and Ayden Heaven (Although they both signed from Arsenal).

Amass can play as a left-back or a left-midfielder, making him ideal for Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation, which does beg the question that Parker asked…was it really worth United spending £29m on Dorgu, when they have Amass in the ranks.
