Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has reached a “verbal agreement” to move to Manchester United, according to Relevo.com journalist Matteo Moretto.
Writing in his “Me llega, me cuentan, me comentan” column, Moretto said that the former Atletico Madrid player was closing in on a switch to the Red Devils this summer.
Other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest have been credited with an interest in Cunha.
However, it appears that Ruben Amorim’s side have progressed negotiations the furthest out of all the teams involved.
Cunha continued his excellent form at the weekend
The Brazilian international scored the opening goal for Wolves in the 3-0 win over relegated Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.
Cunha has now found the back of the net 17 times in all competitions this campaign. His efficiency in front of goal, combined with his excellent ball carrying skills, have encouraged United to make a move for the player.
Head coach Ruben Amorim is said to be keen to deploy him in one of the two No.10 positions either side of his main striker.
When could the forward join Man United?
Moretto claims that a formal bid from the Red Devils is expected over the “coming weeks” with the proposal set to meet Cunha’s release clause.
When the 25-year-old signed a new contract with Wolves at the start of February, it reportedly included a buyout fee worth £62.5m, and it looks certain that Amorim’s team will trigger it.
Of course, you cannot rule out another club from trying to hijack the deal at the very last minute, but all the signs point towards Cunha wearing a United shirt in the not-too-distant future. Fans should be keeping a close eye on developments as soon as the season finishes.
