Premier League icon Alan Shearer says Matheus Cunha’s arrival at Old Trafford won’t necessarily improve Manchester United’s fortunes.
The BBC pundit believes that the Red Devils need a drastic overhaul of the first-team squad and Cunha needs to be one of many new arrivals this summer:
“[He] wouldn’t make a difference for Man United – they’re going to need another six or seven players on top of that He’s just one of the players, if it is going to happen, but yeah I get it and I understand it”
“He’ll be a welcome addition, absolutely. I don’t know what they’re going to have to pay for him. I suspect it’s quite a hefty amount. Has he got talent? Absolutely. Is he a bit of a maverick? Yeah, but you get that with most good players – they have an edge to them and a side which some people may not like.”
Man United have “reached an agreement” to buy the forward
Goal Brasil (via Sport Witness) are claiming that Ruben Amorim’s side are poised to win the race for Cunha’s signature
They report that the Manchester club have “reached an agreement” to snap up the 25-year-old. British sources have not quite gone that far, although there is a general feeling that United are leading the race for the player.
Cunha has a release clause
While the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest have also been credited with an interest in the Brazilian international, it is believed that United are the ones who have made the most progress in talks.
The existence of a buyout clause worth £62.5m means there is no need to directly negotiate with his current team Wolves. We shall see if the Red Devils are prepared to pay the requisite fee over the coming weeks.
